ArtistS

CAtti Brandelius

ATTI BRANDELIUS WAS BORN AND RAISED IN GÄVLE AND LIVES AND WORKS IN STOCKHOLM.
HUMOR AND MY OWN SHORTCOMINGS OFTEN PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN MY CREATIVE WORK. THE GAP BETWEEN OUR DREAMS AND THE WORLD WE INHABIT IS A RECURRING THEME. THROUGH VARIOUS ALTER EGOS, I EXPLORE THEMES OF ART, POLITICS, AND FEMINISM. MY PERSONAS HAVE INCLUDED A SELF-PROCLAIMED MISS UNIVERSUM, AS WELL AS PROFESORA, EVERT TAUBE, ELITAKROBATEN, AND SHOWTJEJEN. IN THIS EXHIBITION I WILL ACT AS AN ANIMAL AND EXPLORE HOW LIFE IS AS AN INVASIVE SPECIES. MY MODES OF EXPRESSION ARE DIVERSE, RANGING FROM PERFORMANCE ART, MUSIC, DRAWING TO TEXTILE ART. I ALSO HAVE A BACKGROUND AS A SINGER IN THE POP BAND DOKTOR KOSMOS. I STUDIED AT KONSTFACK AND THE ROYAL INSTITUTE OF ART IN STOCKHOLM.

YoYo Nasty

YOYO NASTYS work moves between painting and ceramics, building colorful worlds of recurring characters, plants, animals and imagined forms. THE paintings build vivid, character-driven worlds where recurring figures, flowers, animals and organic forms exist together. The images are playful, colorful and slightly surreal. The workS explores how color, gesture, and energy can convey emotion beyond words.
Nature is a strong influence, particularly its rhythms, curves, patterns of growth, and unexpected forms. Music and dance also inform the work through movement, rhythm, and repetition. The process is intuitive, allowing color, form, and association to guide one idea into the next.

Artist bio:Yoyo Nasty is a Stockholm-based artist working across painting, ceramics and design collaborations. Her playful and distinctive visual world is shaped by color, rhythm, recurring characters and an ongoing fascination with nature, fantasy and transformation. Her work has been exhibited internationally, commissioned for public spaces and supported by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.

Rossana Mercado Rojas

Rossana Mercado-Rojas is a Peruvian-born artist and cultural worker based in Stockholm. Her multidisciplinary practice moves between performance, installation, sound, text, murals, and collective processes, often activating the spaces and relationships between people. Her work explores migration, belonging, power, and decolonial feminist perspectives, drawing on both personal experience and collective histories.

The body and the encounter with others are central to her practice. Mercado-Rojas creates spaces where experiences of displacement, uncertainty, resilience, and transformation can coexist with celebration, play, and vulnerability. Moving between art and social action, her work considers how communities are formed and how public space can become a place for alternative voices, identities, and ways of belonging.

She is a co-founder of La Dekoloniala! in Stockholm and an initiator of the feminist art collective Hysterix in Peru. Mercado-Rojas holds an MFA in Curating and Art Criticism from Konstfack and a BA from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. (

HAS Statement

At HAS, we are interested in artists who do more than represent the world . they propose other ways of inhabiting it.

Bringing together Catti Brandelius, Yoyo Nasty and Rossana Mercado-Rojas, this exhibition presents three distinct and powerful artistic voices. Across performance, painting, installation and collective practice, their work moves between the deeply personal and the political, between humour and seriousness, vulnerability and resistance.

These are three strong women and remarkable artists who use imagination not as an escape from reality, but as a way of questioning and reshaping it. Their practices remind us that identity is never fixed, that belonging is something continuously negotiated, and that playfulness itself can carry both intellectual and political force.

For HAS, this exhibition is ultimately about agency: the possibility of creating new characters, new communities, new worlds. and perhaps, through them, seeing our own world differently..

This Exhibition is curated by Yuvinka Medina and in Collaboration with Gävle KOnsthall. The Exhibition is supported by Feminvest

About

Three artists, three distinct practices, brought together through a shared sense of curiosity, independence and artistic freedom. Catti Brandelius, Yoyo Nasty and Rossana Mercado-Rojas each create their own visual and conceptual languages — bold, intelligent and unapologetically personal. Together, their works form an exhibition driven by strong female voices and the power of art to be both serious and wonderfully unruly.
