Pfeifer und Kreutzer

26 April - 10 may, 10-16 daily

Description

Crashing Media explores the contradictions of the contemporary media age through the conceptual artworks of artist duo Pfeifer & Kreutzer. We are surrounded by a constant stream of news, notifications, images, and opinions flowing through countless digital platforms. While these systems promise connection and global networking to us, they also produce distance, fragmentation, and exhaustion. Misinformation, polarized worldviews, and the rapid spread of hate speech contribute to growing social divisions and the resurgence of right-wing extremism. The exhibition reflects on how permanent connectivity affects our capacity for attention, empathy, and reflection. Media it’s no longer just a tool for information, it is built to compete aggressively for our focus, shaping perception and behavior through mechanisms of urgency, repetition, and overload. Crashing Media Is about the moments where these systems collapse, revealing the fragility of our digital world.

Artist Statement

The artist duo Pfeifer & Kreutzer creates concept-driven works that include interactive and kinetic objects, installations, light pieces, and video art.

Their practice revolves around dualities: the highs and lows of life’s unfolding game, the interplay between humans and machines, the animation of the inanimate, and the abundance found within minimalism.

At the core of their art lies a fascination with polarity – Pfeifer & Kreutzer consistently navigate contrasting themes. Initially playful and humorous, their works reveal deeper complexities upon closer examination. Oscillating between humor and seriousness, motion and stillness, noise and silence—life and death—the artists explore the essence of human existence and its impermanence.

At HAS - Helix Art Space, we are interested in the systems that shape perception before we become aware of them. Crashing Media enters precisely there, where connection turns into overload, and participation into quiet manipulation.

We chose to present Pfeifer & Kreutzer because their work operates with a rare precision. Through kinetic installations, sound, and minimal gestures, they create systems that appear simple, almost playful, until they begin to shift. Motors repeat, objects hesitate, machines fail in subtle ways. In that gap, something human appears: fragility, tension, and a strange sense of recognition.

The German and international art scene remains essential to us for this reason. It carries a discipline of reduction and critical distance, a refusal to simply reflect the world as it is, and instead expose the structures beneath it. In a time dominated by speed and noise, that clarity becomes increasingly urgent. Stockholm carries a strong and increasingly confident art scene. What matters now is not scale, but connection, to continuously invite in voices that sharpen, expand, and challenge the conversation. At HAS - Helix Art Space, we take a deliberate position in that landscape, working to anchor international practices within a local context and create encounters that feel both immediate and necessary.

Over the past year, we have actively built bridges toward Korea and across Asia. With Crashing Media, we continue that trajectory, turning our attention toward the German art scene, where a long-standing tradition of conceptual rigor and critical distance brings a different kind of intensity into the space.

At HAS, we are not interested in passive viewing. We are interested in moments where something breaks, not as spectacle, but as revelation. Crashing Media holds that moment, and asks whether we are still capable of recognizing it.

About the artists

Pfeifer & Kreutzer are a German artist duo working with kinetic objects, sound, video, and installation. Their practice is grounded in movement, rhythm, and reduction. Thus constructing minimal systems that quietly unfold over time.

Using motors, sensors, and industrial elements, they create works that appear precise, yet remain unstable. Movements repeat, hesitate, or break; sound emerges and fades. What seems functional gradually becomes fragile. In this exhibition, the artists have worked over an extended period in relation to the site, engaging with the monumental scale of the tower, its brutalist presence, its position within the city, and the simultaneous sense of connection and distance it produces.

Their work navigates the space between control and failure, human and machine. Rather than illustrating ideas, they construct situations where these tensions play out in real time, often through subtle disruption.

What emerges is not spectacle, but a shift in perception. A growing awareness of the systems that shape us, and their inherent instability.
