But I'm Intrigued at the Thought of Artificial Minds Having Dreams.

What happens when we begin to imagine autonomous systems as if they possess dreams, memory, or creativity?

The exhibition brings together four autonomous systems operating across image, sound and light. Rather than presenting fixed objects, the works unfold as ongoing processes, exploring artistic creation at the boundary between human intention and machine autonomy. Together they ask how authorship, artistic voice and perception are transformed when systems become active participants in the act of making.

Artist Statement

Niklas Wallenborg Is a post-digital artist working at the intersection of contemporary art, digital culture, and speculative imagination.

My practice explores how image, process, and authorship are transformed in a world increasingly shaped by autonomous systems and computational technologies.

Working across websites, software, installation, sound, and physical media, I combine high-tech and low-tech methods to investigate creativity, perception, and the relationship between human imagination and machine processes.

Drawing on science fiction and speculative thinking, I create alternative realities that merge past, present, and future while reflecting on the political, technological, and emotional conditions of contemporary life.

Interdisciplinary and experimental, my work treats art not only as object but also as system, process, code, instruction, and narrative.

HAS Statement

As artificial intelligence moves from tool to active participant, established ideas of creativity, authorship and artistic agency are being renegotiated.

In "But I’m Intrigued at the Thought of Artificial Minds Having Dreams", Niklas Wallenborg explores this shifting boundary between human intention and machine autonomy. Through systems that generate image, sound and light, the exhibition considers the artwork not as a fixed object, but as an evolving process shaped by code, chance and computation.

For HAS, Wallenborg’s practice reflects a central question of our time: not simply whether machines can create, but how their increasing autonomy changes our understanding of creativity itself.

The possibility of an artificial mind that dreams remains speculative. Yet it is precisely within this space between technology and imagination that new definitions of the human, and the artistic, begin to emerge.
